Some people already complain about the vanishing of the middle class, but nothing demonstrates it quite like this novel. There is still some of Nixon's famous “Trickle Down Effect“, but the class contrast is quite stark. You have most of the people living in the dark ghettos of Chiba City, struggling to find every meal, and having to resort to crime. Then you have the ultra rich living in orbital space casinos, and you end up having to ask, “How did they get here?“. Their is also a few hints of insurrection here or there, but the restrictions put upon Artificial Intelligence may very well mean the overthrowing of their society. They fear it, so they place heavy restrictions. Or that is how I would interpret it

Class Struggle
The fact that Neuromancer had a society which was either the haves, or the have nots is quite interesting.
