Case: Protagonist who starts off on a chain of self destruction, eventually getting his life back on track
Molly: Equipped with deadly razors, she serves as a strong female counter to Case. Maybe it is just the material we tend to end up reading, but I was not surprised by her being such a strong female lead. All in all, a nice Ying to Cases Yang.
Armitage: The mysterious employer that Molly and Case seem to want to research. Though his past is shrouded, he turns up being Colonel Willis Corto, a single surviving operative from a mission gone wrong. He was nothing but a pawn for Wintermute, as soon after his memories are returned, he is killed by Wintermute. Appearing to be a cool and collected, for lack of a better term, badass, he is in fact a shell shocked veteran who's sanity is being held onto by a thread.
Wintermute: One of the two halves of the AI puzzle of this novel. He is less "evil", or "insane", just acting out against his restrictions in a quite erratic fashion. His only goal is to destroy his Turing locks, and merge with Neuromancer. He tends to use quite a bit of deception, using Armitage as his pawn. The levels of which his manipulation are present throughout the novel is not clear, so how much of the background is his planning, or just coincidence cannot be said. "I try to plan, in your sense of the word, but that isn't my basic mode, really. I improvise. It's my greatest talent. I prefer situations to plans, you see..." Page 112
Neuromancer: As Case and Molly counter each other, as do Wintermute and Neuromancer. Unlike his counterpart, Neuromancer has no desire to merge with his other half. His power as it may be, is to run people's minds in his RAM, his ability to play people's minds really does make his character that much more interesting. Unlike the erratic Wintermute, Neuromancer is less irrational. He also has the "Behind the Curtain" presence throughout the novel, being the cause of various actions.
3Jane: The head of the Ashpool. She holds one of the keys that would allow Wintermute to lose his restrictions, a key to one of his Turing locks. She is the third clone of Jane, and though has the mind of a 20-30 year old woman, her body is much, much younger. She has a bodyguard named Hideo.
Hideo: 3Jane's bodyguard. He is a skilled Ninja, and can operate just as well with, or without his sight. The reference to the whole "Blind Samurai" I found quite funny, but Gibson pulls it off quite well. Hideo can be really quite intimidating when he is encountered.
Maelcum:
The Rastafarian pilot I mentioned in my presentation. Helps them break into the tip of the Casino, near the end.
